Organizations have moral and legal duties to implement ethics when developing a strategic plan while considering stakeholders and consumers, they do not want to be lied to or cheated into buying a false product.Unethical companies will use aggressive sales tactics and mischievous ways, of doing usiness to sell, promote and profit from vulnerable consumers. Why Do People Attend College or University?
Why do people attend college or university? After high school graduated, many people will get a job and work in our society. But also many people will choose to attend college or university. If I have a chance in the future, I will definitely go to college. There are two reasons that I think why people will attend college or university. One is can learn more knowledge. Another one is to get a higher paying job. First of all, things that people learn from high school are very basic and shallow. For example, in history class, we might know that George Washington led his army won war and United States became independent. We all got this, but we didnââ¬â¢t know what he did in detail. So we couldnââ¬â¢t say we already get all of that, it was piece of cake. That is wrong. Thus, people will continue to study more and then the better for that is go to college or university. Also some people may want to learn a special skill like how to fix a car, and then they will go to the mechanic un iversity. There are various types of subjects that you can learn more from college or university, just people want to improve themselves. Moreover, people have studied in college or university can get a better opportunity in finding a job when they step into the society formally. Like some people are not so well-off, they will have an idea, ââ¬Å"I need to working harder than the other students. â⬠This thinking brings them into college or university. So they may get a college diploma, master degree, or doctor degree later. So when they apply for a job, the chance they can get into the good company is easier. For instance, to be a manager in the John Hancock Tower, you must get a good salary like more than $8000. The reason to get a higher paying job is to improve your own life. All in all, I think people apply for college or university because of those two reasons. But also you can meet a lot of intelligent friends, who can help you in the future, and you will become a good boy or girl with them by the influence form those friends. But anyway, ââ¬Å"no pain, no gain. ââ¬

Marketing Communication Trends Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Marketing Communication Trends - Essay Example This paper is an executive report on marketing communication trends. Network radio, along with television, nationalized magazines, and great metropolitan everyday newspapers appear to have constantly been I existence before. These structures not merely tied the nation together; however, there is strapping substantiation that to a large extent they assisted create the current societal and political civilization. Since each person could, and frequently did, perceive and conceivably hear similar messages at once starting from the 1950s and ending in the 1990s, people created nearly standardized mass media, along with mass marketing civilization (Jain, 2008). Marketing companies created generally demanded goods for these mass marketplaces. Retail distribution structures developed to vend to and via these marketplaces. Marketing communications experts developed plans, agendas, and structures to correspond with these mass marketplaces. Then technology rammed into society and individual wants and requirements. Suddenly customers, who currently had additional information compared to before, started to demand particular products, distribution structures, and communication. What at one time had been known to be a mass marketplace fragmented into thousands of detached, individual marketplaces driven by standard of living, ethnic background, earnings, geography, schooling, sexual category, and any other thing, which makes an individual dissimilar from another (Jaceviciute, 2011). Persons who are over 40 years old, were brought up as verbal correspondents. The prominence was on inscription and reading proficiencies. Persons who are less than forty years, are affiliates of the generation that is visual. This age group was raised on TV, movies, speeches, along with the verbal word. The disparity between the manner in which these two age groups communicate is remarkable. The change from a spoken to a visual
Challenges and Opportunities for Managers Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Challenges and Opportunities for Managers - Essay Example Businesses that have a good crop of workers will outperform a company with subpar employees. The quality of the labor force influences on the performance of a company. Take for example two universities systems. One system is selective in its selection process of faculty member with a 90% doctorate rate among faculty members. This college pays its professor a median salary of $127,500. The second college does not emphasize college professors with doctorate studies. The average median salary at the second school was $65,000. Due to the difference in the composition of college professors between the two schools the university with greater credentials provides a higher quality of education. The higher salary offered by the first school made it easier for them to recruit professors with better credentials. Money or economic considerations are the top motivating factor for employees (Schermerhorn & Hunt & Osborn, 2003). Selecting employees that have poor skills or that are less qualified t han other candidates hurts the corporation. Managers are exposed to a higher workload because poor employees require a higher attention and supervision from the managers to ensure they perform at the highest possible level. Good employees on the other hand are typically self-motivated which saves managers time.

Tesla Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Tesla Analysis - Essay Example Tesla continues to decrease limitations and make them better with each new model as envisaged in the Tesla Model S. There has been low allocation of research and development funds by established automobile companies to electric vehicles allowing Tesla a competitive advantage and the success in the market (Hartung, Par. 14). Tesla has the iconic CEO and founder Elon Musk to thank for access to best engineers and access funds easily beating the established brands on this front especially access to talent. Tesla chose a market demographic consisting of wealthy, environmentally conscious, and educated people providing it with reputational advantage over established companies like Ford. The demographic also offers Tesla access to high margins on each car sale owing to the ability of the market segment to pay for high-performance car that sacrifices very little to efficiency. Innovation also allowed Tesla to overcome the above barriers in the market including the introduction of direct sales to the consumers cutting expenses on dealers and the need to have networks. The other benefit of innovation is that the company was in a position to produce high performing electric car and with innovation it is currently continuing the provision of charging stations to meet client needs and concerns as well as develop the electric market

Resistance to psychologization in the novel Tom Jones Essay
Resistance to psychologization in the novel Tom Jones - Essay Example Keeping in accord to the theme of argument in the paper that the narrator in the novel The History of Tom Jones often withholds information about the psychological traits of his character these observations are highly relevant. The limits of psychologization in the novel not only stops emergence of Tom Jones are a complete human character but also it affects the constructional themes of the novel from the perspectives of theme, narrative and characterization. The character of Tom Jones in the novel deserves special critical treatment and discussion because he can be regarded as a bridge between the themes of conventional medieval romanticism and the future course of the tradition of novel writing with special focus on the analysis of human psychology. While the narrator has quite carefully resisted the temptation of indulging within the psychologization of the protagonist by withdrawing information about his interior thoughts, on the other hand, he also has provided subtle hints to t he traits of psychological disturbance of the character under specific situations. Observing this trait feature in Fieldingââ¬â¢s writing, Evans Lansing Smith has quite aptly suggested that ââ¬Å"Henry Fieldingââ¬â¢s novel â⬠¦ stands at a crucial turning point in our survey of the hero in literature. While looking backwards to the traditions of the medieval romance, Tom Jones carries the conventional symbolism of the Classical epic â⬠¦ forwards into the future, anticipating a long line of novels in our tradition which combine realistic or historical detail and mythic symbolismâ⬠(Smith 195). The relevance of Psychologization in the context of novel writing: The critics like Frances Ferguson are of opinion that psychologization of characters in novels not only helps readers to follow aesthetics of the narrative from the perspective of an outsider, but at the same time it helps them to receive understanding of the characters as well as flow of the novel from quite a personalized perspective. One of the basic principles regarding the technique of novel writing is to incite readers to enjoy tension of characterization and plot development. A novelist can effectively use his narrative skills to develop the tension by emphasizing on the psychologization of characters. Frances Ferguson in this context has opined that narration of the psychological complexity of character in a novel ââ¬Å"â⬠¦does not at all directly express mental states but rather relies on the contradiction built into the formal stipulation of them. Psychological complexity, that is, pits the stipulated mental state against oneââ¬â¢s actual mental state â⬠¦. Psychology is the ongoing possibility of the contradiction between what one must mean and what one wants to meanâ⬠(Ferguson; Cited in Macpherson 123). This observation not only attracts attention in the context of explaining Fieldingââ¬â¢s narrative retrain of Tomââ¬â¢s character, but at the same time also finds support from Dr. Johnsonââ¬â¢s special emphasis on the importance of explaining characters in terms of manner and nature (Watt 261). Ian P. Watt explains that ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËCharacter of mannersââ¬â¢

How the Internet has Changed the way we live Essay
How the Internet has Changed the way we live - Essay Example Department of Defense gave birth to ARPANET which later became the internet. The visionaries who saw great potential in using computers to share information on research in scientific and military fields laid the spark of internet's birth. In 1962, J.C.R. Licklider of MIT proposed a global network of computers. Leonard Kleinrock developed the packet switching which is the basis of internet connections. In 1965, Lawrence Roberts connected a Massachusetts computer with a Californian one over dial-up telephone lines. The ARPANET, first brought online in 1969, initially connected four computers at universities in southwestern US. Ray Tomlinson, in 1972, brought e-mail to ARPANET. He was the one who introduced the symbol-@- to connect the username and address. The internet was designed to provide a communication network that would resist nuclear attacks. The early users were computer experts, engineers, scientists and librarians. During the '60s and '70s, Frederick G. Kilgour of the Ohio College Library Center led networking of Ohio libraries. In the mid 1970s, New England, the southwest states, Mid Atlantic states, etc. joined it to form national, later, international networks. The ARPANET matured in the '70s due to the TCP/IP architecture proposed and developed by Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf. USENET was born in 1979 with the Unix to Unix Protocol invention. Newsgroups were introduced to exchange information throughout the world. Though it was not a significant part of the Internet (due to the lack of TCP/IP), it played a vital role in the development of the Internet. BITNET appeared in1981 and it connected the mainframes of IBM and also provided mail services. SCNET, developed in 1984, grew into NSFNet, the backbone of Internet. In 1986, when it was developed, it gave access to a number of super computing centers. More departments started making use of the Internet. Hence, more tools and resources were needed. More universities, organizations and libraries got connected and Internet became harder to track. In 1991, the first friendly interface to the Internet was developed. In July, 1992, Delphi, the first national commercial online service offered Internet access to its subscribers. In 1993, Microsoft Internet Explorer was developed. With the release of Windows 98 which the browser well integrated in the desktop, Bill Gates capitalized on the Internet. The Internet Boom The impact of the Internet is too enormous that it takes a lifetime to elaborate on it. Business entered the Internet arena. Advertising showed up to attract consumers. Online shopping entered a faster pace. Consumers found it easy when they could compare prices. Delphi's free offer of web pages, chat rooms, community building centers, etc. made the Internet more and more on demand. High-speed connections spread. Cable modems and digital subscriber lines replaced the older, slower ones. Wireless access bloomed. Now, we even have small, portable devices that can be used to access the Internet like, the pocket PC, game machines, GPS devices, etc. Let us discuss how Internet affects the various fields of our day to day lives. IMPACTS ON BUSINESS In the beginning, the use of Internet remained to searching and mailing. With the rise of more innovations, people started applying technology to various fields. Business is one such field which was rewritten by the entry of Internet. ECONOMY We saw the days when anything was

The Great Awakening and Age of Enlightenment Essay Example for Free
The Great Awakening and Age of Enlightenment Essay The eighteenth century was a period of change for American colonists. They encountered new ways of life with the revival of religion and the introduction to science. The yearning for knowledge encouraged the colonists to partake in religious activities and explore the scientific world around them. The Great Awakening was a movement created by the Protestants and its purpose was to reestablish religious faith. The Age of Enlightenment was a movement concerning intellectuals all around the world. It was the culmination of old traditions and the beginning of new ideas and approaches. These two major movements significantly affected the growth of colonial America because it inspired people to work as a unified group and gain independence. The Great Awakening took place during the 1700s in colonial America and soon reached to European nations such as England, Scotland and Germany. The movement expressed how being truly religious required a person to trust the heart instead of the head and to depend on biblical beliefs more than human logic. Preaching was vital and had a great impact on the people who were listening. For instance, Jonathan Edwards tried to reform the Pilgrims and turn them back to their Calvinist roots and make them fear God once again. His emotional sermons talked about how all of mankind had sinfulness and hatefulness in their souls. Those who agreed to the message Edwards was sending were called the New Lights and those who opposed it were called the Old Lights. The conflict between them later resulted in the development of future universities and represented a small step towards the unity of all the colonies. The Age of Enlightenment started in Europe around the time of the Great Awakening. The goal was to develop knowledge based on logic and free- thinking. Scientific views and natural philosophy were replacements of religion and were the resources for understanding nature and human fate. There were advancements in mathematics with Sir Isaac Newton, who created physics. In addition, technology was a major achievement with an example of Ben Franklin and his invention of the lightning rod. Due to these successes, people of colonial America grew in their mental rather than their physical state. They were more aware of things around them, which was beneficialà because it created a sense of independence that they didnt have before. In conclusion, the Great Awakening and the Age of Enlightenment were two important movements of the eighteenth century. The movements inspired the American colonists to bond and become less dependent on others who usually take charge. The revival of religions brought people practicing the same belief together, which helped them unite and the Enlightenment period marked the basis on the journey to discover individual liberty. So as it is shown, both would certainly help colonial America grow into one independent nation.

Black Women in the Slave Trade
Black Women in the Slave Trade Throughout the slave trade, black women often were represented and observed through the sexually repressed European perspective that viewed them as immoral and promiscuous. Many viewed black females lack of modesty as a sign of their impaired moral nature and increased sex drive. The view of the African female as a manipulating temptress thus emerged and it was believed that she used it to her advantage to achieve favours and obtain prestige. It wasnt just the men that sexually abused the enslaved women. According to Shepherd, some white working class women who owned enslaved Africans females rented them out as prostitutes. The children born to these enslaved women were then brought up by the slave owner until they were weaned and then were sold off (Gettysburg, Nd). Planters, slave owners and slave masters had absolute right and power sexually over the female slaves. They used them for prostitution for income. The plantation owners used the slave women for breeding. The production for children for sale was finically good for the slave system. Elizabeth Fenwick found no important reason for differentiation morally between urban slave owners who deployed slave women as prostitutes and the plantation owners who used them for breeding purposes (Milwood and Min, 2014). Barracoons and the encouragement of slave women to have children were of great benefit financially for slave owners and planters. In sententious expression, prostitution of slave women was an extension of the slave trade business. Seeing the purpose of slavery was economical. To conclude, that prostitution was prevalent throughout the slave trade system. According to Edward long of the late eighteenth century, Jamaican enslaved women were predisposed with the propensity to activate sexual with profiency and without moral reflections (cited in Milwood and Min, 2014). In the book sex work and sex workers by Dank and Refinetti (1999) suggest that since the 1970s, the Caribbean such as Barbados it has become famous country for female tourist (Dank and Refinetti, 1999, p. 96). Males search the island for single female tourists (Dank and Refinetti,1999, p. 96). This is called sex tourism. To explain what it is, when rich women tourists come to the Caribbean and pay a beach boy for sex. His appearance is based on the females notion of a hyper sexual black male, hair often dreadlocked, to suggest an untamed primitive nature (Kempadoo, 1999, p.46). you know why some of the girls like the knot-up hair? When some girls send photos and stuff up to England, you dont see any clean cut men. They send a picture of a Rasta so when a girl come down here they think a Rasta is a real Caribbean man, so that is why they go for the Rasta. But some of them does get fool them does get an imposter (cited in Kempadoo, 1999, p. 46). The reason why these boys are having sexual relations with female white tourist is the desire of money. However, the women do not see themselves as prostitutes so they define it has holiday romance. Davidson and Taylor (1999) states that among women surveyed, many of them see they are helping these boys out financially by giving them money and other treats (Kempadoo, 1999, p.48). This can relate back to the Atlantic slave trade where black women were used for sex by the white slave owners (Kempadoo, 1999). The historical link to the beach boys and white female tourists relates not only colour hierarchy but also gender. In the slavery 200 ago, when white men had the power to do anything to a black female. Elridge Cleaver in his book Soul on Ice. Cleaver explains that the sexual attraction between the black man and the white woman the Primeval Urge (Miller, 1997, p.26). Franz Fanon argues that by getting with a white woman the black man proves to himself his importance and it allows him to make up for his inferior feelings caused by slavery (Albo, Nd, no pagination). This singularity is also connects with conventional concepts of the hypersexual Caribbean male Cynthia Enloe (feminist) expresses of the relation to the Caribbean sex tourism as the new plantations, she states that it mirrors the old system of the slave trade many years ago; where white males were dominating black women slaves (Albo, Nd, no pagination). Black individuals have been victims of social stigmas which continues to shape society today. Where they have been damaged during slavery trade such as sexual slavery is evidence of the lack of freedom and the consent to prostitution (Butler, 2015, p. 130). Similarly, pornographic videos and mainstream magazines have also promoted the sexual stereotyping of Black men as sex machines with a particularly ravenous desire for sex with White women (cited in Butler, 2015, p. 130). These sexual stereotypes fuel todays demand for sexual tourism with women of colour (cited in Butler. 2015, p. 130).

Developing and Overcoming Antisocial Personality Disorder Essay
Developing and Overcoming Antisocial Personality Disorder Personality disorders are among the most difficult disorders to be diagnosed and treated in psychology. The highly ingrained behaviors of the disorders, the difficulty in differentiating between normalcy and illness, and the patients lack of understanding and excepting their symptoms as abnormal, are all contributing obstacles of the disorder. Personality is shaped by experiences during childhood and adolescence as well as genetics. Therefore, children that develop mental disorders are more likely to develop personality disorders as adults. Conduct disorder in children has been highly linked to the development of antisocial personality disorder in adults. The DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual) suggests, but does not require, a history of conduct disorder when making an antisocial personality diagnosis (1). Not only is there a high correlation between people having the disorders, but conduct disorder seems to be a preliminary childhood manifestation of the same underlying malfunctions that are characteristic of the adult disorder, antisocial personality disorder. When looking at the development and causes of antisocial personality disorder it is important to note the symptoms, characteristics, and circumstance of conduct disorder as well. Conduct disorder, a childhood behavior disorder described by the DSM, is characterized by chronic misbehavior. The children and adolescence often participate in serious physical fighting, alcohol and drug abuse, violation of parental and school rules, vandalizing and setting fires, and many other antisocial behaviors. These children, unless adequately treated, have a 50% rate of becoming involved with drugs an... ...y disorder 5)"The Neurobiology of Stress and Emotions.", hormone contributors to antisocial personality http://www.aboutibs.org/Publications/stress.html 6)"CSF 5-HIAA and Family History of Antisocial Personality Disorder in Newborns", article concerning the connection between serotonin and antisocial disorders 7)"Family Functioning and Peer Affiliation in Children of Fathers With Antisocial Personality Disorder and Substance Dependence: Associations With Problem Behaviors.", environmental factors related to the development of antipersonality disorders http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/content/abstract/159/4/607 8)" Aggression and Transference in Severe Personality Disorders.", characteristics of antisocial personality disorder http://www.mhsource.com/pt/p950216.jhtml?_requestid=524313 9)Serendip Website, I-function http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/

The Internet :: essays research papers
Right now I'm thinking about the Internet, the all-pervasive medium through which I've published my thoughts and work I've done in my free time for several years now. Like mostly everyone else, I communicate with others using the Internet, play games through it, read news, and learn about things. (Except, sadly, I am not convinced the general public is interested in learning.) And we are all familiar with the "dot com mania" and the insane rise in the NASDAQ - and, sadly, the subsequent fall of the NASDAQ. People have been wondering exactly what was behind all of this, and if the Internet - which once seemed so enticing - is now bogus. "What we are entering is a power age, and the importance of the power age lies in its ability, rightly used with the wage motive behind it, to increase and cheapen production so that all of us may have more of this world's goods. The way to liberty, the way to equality of opportunity, the way from empty phrases to actualities, lies through power" - Henry Ford Here's something which should not be news: the entire .com insanity was a crock from the start! That's right - the entire New Economy was founded on delusions and misinformation all along. But just as people were overzealous then, they are overly pessimistic now (at the time of this writing). The Internet is not intrinsically a crock. But the general public got a taste of what the Internet can do, and warped and distorted it into a magical cure-all for all of life's problems. The Internet cannot produce material objects; only industry can. The Internet can near-instantaneously transport information from any location to any location, but it cannot transport atoms. And while information is fun and happy, many other things we enjoy (such as books (for now), pizza, and computers!) are made of heavy, sluggish atoms. Throwing up a web site does not automatically mean instant wealth, nor does a name that ends in ".com". This has always been true, and will continue to be true (for a while...), but for a short time most everyone deluded themselves into believing the exact opposite. And even technically knowledgeable people (such as myself, and many others who knew what the Internet was before everyone and his uncle came onto the scene) were caught up in the hysteria, because the Internet is indeed really cool, and it seemed it was the time when everyone was becoming aware of that fact too.

Essay on an Analysis of Horror Movies Essay
Horror has been a long time one of the most popular categories of films in the movie industry. People liked to watch horror films to be afraid and to outdo their fears: ââ¬Å"On a psychological level, the horror film dramatizes our nightmares, so that we can confront themâ⬠(Sigmund Freud, p.644). Gradually, because horror films became too repetitive and too numerous, people got used to watching them and were no longer terrified. Even if horror films do not scare us, why do we continue to watch them? The reason is very simple: horrors films became so unrealistic, so ridiculous and, in return, very funny to watch. Firstly, this essay will focus on how the serial killer (the bad guy) is ridiculous by his invulnerability, due to his power. Secondly, it will focus on how the characters are ludicrous, silly by their stupidity and on the setting which is over-exaggerated. To conclude, it will be shown how the female portrait is so demeaning, unrealistic and absurd. Examples from horr or films Nightmare on Elm Street 3, Friday the 13th (Part 8) and Freddy VS Jason will be used to prove these points. First of all, the serial killer (bad guy) in horror films is most of the time very powerful, very strong and seems invulnerable to injuries from their victims. For example, in a scene from Friday the 13th (Part 8), a young black teenager tries to escape from Jason by going on the roof of a building. Of course Jason finds him and, seeing that he is trapped, the young boy decides to fight Jason with his fists. He incessantly punches Jason, yet the serial killer does not seem affected. Tired, the boy stops to hit and Jason punches his head causing it to fall off and fly through the air. It is funny to see this absurd scene which is impossible to do in the real life. ââ¬Å"The horror film offers to see all kinds of frightening events, to feel something of the same fear and terror as the characters on the screen, [â⬠¦]â⬠(Ira Konigsberg, p.469). There is nothing frightening in this idealistic scene because the killer is too strong, too ridiculous and people will laugh. Another example of ridiculous killers is Freddy Krooger. ââ¬Å"Freddy is most like a comic book superhero ââ¬â aggressive, resourceful, and unbeatable ââ¬â he gets what he wants. Freddy says, ââ¬Å"I am eternal,â⬠and he can become anything he wants: a bathroom, a puppet, a showerhead, a motorcycle, a diving board, a huge snake, a cartoon character, and so on. His identity is one of absolute power. [â⬠¦]Stalkers like Freddy, Jason, [â⬠¦] cannot beà stopped.â⬠(Gary Heba, p.106) In short, the evil character (Jason, Freddy, etc.) in horror films are always ridiculous and funny to watch because they are too powerful, too strong and too invulnerable. Also, the characters and the settings are other elements which make horror films so hilarious. Most of the time, the characters have stupid reactions while dealing with the murderer. By example, in a scene of Freddy VS Jason, a girl teen escapes from Freddy in her dreams. She enters in a big room and hides herself in a locker thinking that Freddy will not find her. She is so noisy that Freddy easily finds her and kills her. Everything seems to occur by chances in horror films but is calculated in reality. For example, in Friday the 13th (Part 8), a young woman escapes from Jason in the woods, falls and finds a knife on the ground that she picks up to defend herself. The chances that it happens in the real life are very minimal. In a few words, the characters are often unrealistic by the way they act and the setting is too calculated. These things make horror films out of reach and very witty. Another factor that makes the horror film so unrealistic and not scary is the female portrait. In horror movies, most of the ladies are very hot and are often naked. Women are perceived as sexual objects because they are usually used in sexual scenes to attract the attention of the male audience. The girls seem to have all their assets in their body and none in their head. Generally, the slaughterer in horror films is a male and most of the victims are young women. ââ¬Å"Critic and researchers have claimed that movies such as Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, [â⬠¦] feature acts of extreme violence [â⬠¦], women singled out for injury and death [â⬠¦] and scenes of explicit violence juxtaposed with sexual or erotic female images. It has been argued that females are more frequently the targets of violence in slasher films.â⬠(Barry S Sapolsky, p.28). For example, in the Friday the 13th (Part 8), there is a couple who are having sex in a boat. Quietly Jason goes aboard the boat, picks up a harpoon gun and goes in the bedroom where the couple is. Quickly he harpoons the couple who was copulating. To sum up, the female portrait is very demeaning in horror films and it makes these films very absurd, improbable, unintelligent and very comical to watch because theà women would never act as ridiculously in real life. To sum up, people like and continue to watch horror films because they are ridiculous, unrealistic and very funny in return. Many factors make these films like that: the serial killers who are always too powerful, too strong and too invincible (like Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krooger); the characters who act so stupidly and the setting that is so improbable; and the female portrait which is very demeaning because the women are perceived most of the time as sexual objects; most of the women are not like that in the real life. Maybe one day the movie industry will understand that people want to be scared when they go to watch a horror film and not to burst out in laughter.

Coca cola marketing research Essay
The Coca-Cola company was established back in 1886 and it is most famous of creating the soft drink Coca Cola. Based on a global brand study, Coca Cola was the worldââ¬â¢s most valuable brand in 2011. Though, just like all those ââ¬Å"oldâ⬠and well developed brands, Coca Cola is facing aging problem, a disconnection with the younger generation and it seems like people are not picking up coca cola as a trendy drink and a sign of coolness anymore as there are so many other drinks available in the market nowaday. In order to make the brandââ¬â¢s image younger, Coca Cola started a campaign back in 2011 called ââ¬Å"Share a Cokeâ⬠, internally known as ââ¬Å"Project Connectâ⬠. It is a worldwide campaign that started with their Australia team and in 2014 the campaign has finally reached Hong Kong. There are two objectives for this campaign, to get the attention of the younger generation and to make them feel like Coca Cola is still a trendy and cool thing to be talk ing about and another communication objective for the campaign is really just to have everyone to talk about Coca Cola again, both in the real and virtual world. As mentioned, Coca cola is trying to get collection with young people again and to make Coca Cola the cool thing to be talking about among people, so the target audience of the campaign is young adults focusing on demographic of 18 ââ¬â 25 years old, who is health consumers, affluent and really is the current and future major stakeholders for the brand. In order to bring people together to ââ¬Å"Share a Cokeâ⬠, Coca Cola swapped out Cokeââ¬â¢s classic label on bottles and cans with 200 of Hong Kongââ¬â¢s most popular nick names, like ââ¬Å"Ã¥ ¥ ³Ã§Å¡â¡ (queen), ââ¬Å"Gag çŽ⹠(joke maker)â⬠, â⬠Buddyâ⬠, ââ¬Å"ç ²â°Ã§ µ ²(fans)â⬠, ââ¬Å"é âä º º(expert)â⬠, ââ¬Å"Ã¥ ¥ ³Ã§ ¥Å¾ (goddess)â⬠, ââ¬Å"ç⠷ç ¥Å¾ (god)â⬠or common names like ââ¬Å"Yanâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Wahâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Leeâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Fungâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Mingâ⬠or phases like ââ¬Å"miss youâ⬠, ââ¬Å"love youâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Oh Dearâ⬠, à ¢â¬Å"Cheer upâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m yoursâ⬠etc. This is one of the strategy that Coca Cola came out to bring together to talk about Coca Cola again, a new concept that Coke came up and wants to promote is ââ¬Å"Shareabilityâ⬠. Coca Cola understands the best way to connect people is to have something they can share or even can send it as a gift to their friends and relatives. Moreover, If you canââ¬â¢t find a nick name, common names nor phases that best represent you or your love one? No worries, Coca Cola had created a web page for customers to go online and create a virtual bottle to share it on social media (e.x. facebook, Instagram and Twitterâ⬠¦etc) with their friends and family. Coca Cola would never missed a single person who is interested in ââ¬Å"Share a Cokeâ⬠out. In other countries, such as the U.S. and U.K., customers with less common names (or basically if you canââ¬â¢t find what you are looking for), they are able to get a mini can customized with their name on it at one of their pop up stops. Because of Hong Kong donââ¬â¢t have the similar promotion, people are starting to sell the service of helping people to order personalized cans and bottles in the U.K. This also helped Coca Cola Hong Kong to create the basic foundation of pull strategy as supply was super limited and it I very time consuming to mail the products from overseas to Hong Kong making the products very hard to get. Another advantage of the success of the ââ¬Å"Share a Cokeâ⬠campaign overseas is that it offered the Hong Kong campaign a word-of-mouth (WOM) communication and WOM plays an important role as a communications tool in modern marketing. As Kotler (2009) suggests that if an organization can develop a marketing program to harness andà accelerate the use of personal recommendation effectively, the more likely it will be that the marketing program will be successful. This also acted as a demand-created pull strategy, as overseas people were gifting that to people who are living in Hong Kong and Hong Kong people were soon demanding to see this unique style of Coca Cola cans in Hong Kong. As soon as people got hold with a can of the personalized Coca Cola, they will share it on Instagram to show people how cool they are. Indeed, in Hong Kong, before the official campaign launched, Coke partnered with Volkswagen and sent personalized Coke can in a fancy box to younger generation celebrities like Charlene Choi, Gillian Chung, Shiga Lin and PakHo Chauâ⬠¦etc. On the cover of that fancy white box, Coca Cola encouraged celebrities to create a post on Instagram with hashtag shoareacokehk and cocacolahk. This encouragement of sharing those ââ¬Å"Share a cokeâ⬠cans on Instagram or Facebook created another pull strategy which would eventually catching the suppliersââ¬â¢ attention to inquiry to Coca Cola about those unique cans as celebrities are always the focus point for people to follow where the trend is. After this massive breakthrough, ââ¬Å"Share a cokeâ⬠cans and bottles were then secretly (without any proper announcementâ⬠sent to convenience stores like 711, OK andà supermarket likes Wellcome and ParknShop. As soon as they were in stock, people started to treasure hunt to trying to ââ¬Å"share a coke with their love one and to post it on social platformsâ⬠, mainly on Instagram and Facebook. *See below images as examples. In a situation like this, the push strategy will play its part in meeting the objectives for this campaign which is letting the supplier know the demand for this product which is created by celebrities influences, social media powers and later advertising. Finally persuading retailers to both stock the product and to actively promote the ââ¬Å"Share a cokeâ⬠cans to their customers and finally making the product more accessible. Ever since Coca Cola started to encourage people to ââ¬Å"Share a cokeâ⬠, people have been uploading Instagram and Facebook posts on a regular basis. This is a creative way to make use of the profile strategy as numerous posts will be updated on Instagram everyday automatically under hashtag shareacokehk and cocacolahk and keeping stakeholders/audiences up to date with campaign information and the official Coca Cola Instagram would also share peopleââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Share a cokeâ⬠moment. This tactic is cost effective for Coca Cola (saved money on hiring a spoke person as many celebrities have automatically became a ââ¬Å"spoke personâ⬠the moment they shared their personalized Coca Cola), it created a free of charge profile strategy as fans or lay people will soon follow what celebrities are doing and share a coke with their name on social media platform. This ââ¬Å"Share a Cokeâ⬠wave has caught mediaââ¬â¢s attention as bloggers and magazines were reporting this. Therefore, at a later time, personalized cans were also sent to famous bloggers, magazine editors and particular for those who have a high number of followers/fan base on Instagram. In order to ââ¬Å"officiallyâ⬠announce and position Coca Cola in the minds of consumers with a view to differentiation and to inform prospective customers about the ââ¬Å"Share a Cokeâ⬠campaign, Coca Cola then started to advertise on traditional platform. It aired a television commercial on one of the biggest television channels in Hong Kong-TVB, pointing out the various nickname that people can find to mix and match them. Advertising on national television offer mass coverage, flexible format and uses sight, movement and soundà which fit in with the young adult demographic as things like that will attract their attention. They have also created posters telling people to share a coke with their mom and dad to emphasize the objective of this campaign- shareability of the product, to make people talking about Coca Cola again. Coca Cola also rented several outdoors places at causeway bay (e.x. Sogo), creating a venting machine like billboard starting ââ¬Å"Share a coke with the person next to you, Share Coca Cola, Share happinessâ⬠and putting all the available names on there for making potential customers aware of the offering. Advertising outdoor creates a good coverage as a support medium and as the location (Sogo, Causeway bay) is where all the young adults go, it creates a perfect interesting background for young adult to take a picture and share it on Instagram as it is not so easy to spot such a large scale Coca Cola machine in your daily life. *See below images as examples. Ogilvy & Mather (the advertising agency behind all these) had also found Jonathan Mak (who editing the Apple logo in remembrance of Steve Jobs) to design a poster inspired by ââ¬Å"Share a Cokeâ⬠to advertise this campaign. You can see attached, to depict two hands sharing a Coke. This poster has served as something unique, young and trendy to matches with the target audience of the campaign. Evaluation of effectiveness: should be related to the campaign objectives and the particular tools chosen, e.g. advertising could be post-testing, tracking studies, likeability or enquiry tests. Particular market research techniques using qualitative or quantitative methods should be proposed, e.g. focus groups, surveys. A researcher quote in Wilson (2006: p.29) suggests that, ââ¬Å"The proposal is the most important part of the whole research projectâ⬠. Before we evaluate the effectiveness of the tools use, let me restate the objective of this campaign again, which is to reconnect with young adults and just have people talking about Coca Cola again. In order to evaluate whether or not the television commercial tool is effective or not, I would use likeability testà as to researching to what degree people enjoyed the advertisement and really feel like they have connect with the ââ¬Å"Share a cokeâ⬠campaign. I propose using quantitative research which is described by Wilson (2006) as a structured approach producing quantifiable data for statistical analysis, gathered from a populationà sample or census. I propose that we will create a 5 questions questionnaire asking a combination of descriptive and casual questions like ââ¬Å"What do you feel about Coca Colaââ¬Ës ââ¬Å"Share a Cokeâ⬠campaignâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Have you watch the TV commercial about ââ¬Å"Share a cokeâ⬠â⬠, ââ¬Å"Would you consider drinking Coca Cola as a trendy thing after watching the commercial ?â⬠, ââ¬Å"How do you feel about the ââ¬Å"Share a Cokeâ⬠concept and do you think the commercial has stated what we are trying to offer?â⬠, ââ¬Å"have you shared a coke with anyone after watching the commercialâ⬠. I suggest using Facebook as the platform to pass on the questionnaire to random audience that is within the demographic that we are aiming at as it is the most convenient and cost effective way because on Facebook you can set your target audience age to your desired one. Two identical questionnaires should be sent out to the same group of people who are aged between 18-25 across the campaign period to see if the audience has any perception changes over time. We could also get from the data whether or not we are reaching the right target auidences and whether or not this advertisement is doing what we want it to do. The second tool that we are going to evaluate is Instagram as Coca Cola has created itââ¬â¢s own hashtag for the campaign #shareacokehk and #cocacolahk and as our target audience is young adults, Instagram has been a major communication tools for the demographic. Also, Coca Cola has been posting all updates on its official Instagram page and this should be where we get all the noises from as Coca Cola has posted on all itââ¬â¢s advertising communication tools to share it on Instagram. Morevoer, Coca Cola has emphasized shareability over this campaign so the effective use of Instagram is notwithstanding one of the most important evaluation to do. Using Observation research to collect quantitative data would be a good way to analysis the effectiveness of this heavily used tool. I suggest for a consecutive of 30 days, researchers to go through around 100 potential hashtags posting on Instagram, starting with the two official hashtags ââ¬Å"shareacokehkâ⬠, ââ¬Å"cocacolahkâ⬠, cokehkâ⬠, ââ¬Å"ilovecokeâ⬠à then following any potential hashtags such as phases on cansâ⬠¦etc. Researchers will record daily change rate of each hashtag search, we can then compare shareability of each hashtags. We can also record likes from each post and see which personalized cans/bottles grabs the most attention. From the evaluation of the effectiveness of Instagram, we can increase shareability of the campaign (as, again itââ¬â¢s one of the major goal to get people talking about Coca Cola again). With the quantitative data that we got from this research, we can perhaps add more hashtags that people are likely to use and also we could use those information to amend or add in names that are in popular demands to keep the idea fresh. We could also see whether or not we are hitting on our target audiences. In Conclusion, the ââ¬Å"Share a Cokeâ⬠campaign is a clever idea. It is further proof how something so simple can still create a lot of buzz on the internet and in social settings. This ââ¬Å"Share a Cokeâ⬠campaign has fully fulfilled Fill (2006)ââ¬â¢s definition of marketing communications. ââ¬Å"A management process through which an organization seeks to engage with its various audiences. To accomplish this, the organization develops, presents and evaluates a series of messages which it sends to and receives from its different audiences. The objective of this process is to position the organization and its offering in the minds of particular audiences and in doing so encourage theà development of relationships that are of mutual value.â⬠Coca Cola has proven to us that with the right marketing communication tools, an aging brand can sure be made younger again and reconnect with the you nger generation. Have you ââ¬Å"Share a Cokeâ⬠with your loved one today? John Proctor as a Tragic Hero in “The Crucible”
In the play by Arthur Miller The Crucible, the town of Salem is in pandemonium under the non-existent threat of witchcraft. Every character is either lying to save their lives or to end others, or dying for not admitting to a lie. One character who stands out among the chaotic conflagration is the tragic hero John Proctor. In Greek drama, a tragic hero is defined as ââ¬Å"a great or virtuous character in a dramatic tragedy that is destined for downfall, suffering, or defeat.â⬠No character in The Crucible fits this description better than John Proctor. John Proctor is the tragic hero in The Crucible because of his strengths and notable traits, such as reason and personal sacrifice. He also fits the description because of his tragic flaws such as unfaithfulness and pride that led to his fall from grace.During the chaos of the trials, the supposedly moral and just citizens of Salem loses a moral compass. What sets John Proctor apart is the fact that he is willing to do what is go od, despite the personal cost. As he is trying to save the life of his wife, as well as himself, he addresses Judge Danforth. ââ¬Å"She thinks to dance with me on my wifeââ¬â¢s grave! And well she might, for I thought of her softly. God help me, I lusted, and there is a promise in such sweat. But it is a whoreââ¬â¢s vengeance, and you must see it; I set myself entirely in your hands.I know à you must see it nowâ⬠(Miller 49, John Proctor Essay) Here, John Proctor reveals Abigailââ¬â¢s true motivations, and at a great personal cost. In the Puritan culture, oneââ¬â¢s image was oneââ¬â¢s livelihood, and Proctor gives his up to maintain truth and stability. Another trait that adds to the nobility of John Proctor is his voice of reason in a reasonless situation. The first person he voices this to is Reverend Hale. ââ¬Å"And why not, if they must hang for denyinââ¬â¢ it? There are them that will swear to anything before theyââ¬â¢ll hang; have you naughtà th ought of thatâ⬠(Miller 33.)John is somehow the only one in the community to see that people might confess to what they did not do so they will not hang. Arthur Miller also conveys through John Proctor that it is acceptable to stand up to unjust authority. These traits that the character John Proctor possesses are what qualify him to be a tragic hero.A tragic hero must have tragic flaws as well, which John Proctor does not have a lack of. It is arguable that his affair with Abigail Williams is the root of the witch trials. He tries to fix it by attempting to silence her. ââ¬Å"Abby, I may think of you softly from time to time. But I will cut off my hand before Iââ¬â¢ll ever reach for you again. Wipe it out of mind. We never touched, Abbyâ⬠(Miller 15.)This affair he has with Abigail is an extremely deadly flaw. Abigail starts all of the witch paranoia because of her desire to get rid of Elizabeth Proctor because she falls in love with John. When John discharges her fro m his home and his life, she goes on a blood buzz for Elizabeth and the rest of Salem, causing the entire tragedy of the witch trials. A broader point that Miller depicts through the effect the affair has is all of the damage that lying and unfaithfulness causes.Another tragic flaw that, like most tragic heroes in Greek drama, John Proctor exhibits is pride. Proctor has the choice between life and death on pen and paper, to sign his name means life, to refuse means death. ââ¬Å"Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them who hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul, leave my nameâ⬠(Miller 62.)The begging of John Proctor to preserve his name is as prideful as it is useless. He confesses to these lies, but he lets himself be hanged because he does not want the community to see his name on a confession paper on the church door. It is this exact fl aw that leads directly to the downfall and death of John Proctor.John Proctor fits perfectly to the definition of a tragic hero. He shows nobility through his traits such as sacrifice and reason. He also exhibitsà tragic flaws through his personal demons such as pride, lust, and unfaithfulness. Through the character John Proctor, Arthur Miller teaches the reader a valuable lesson. Unfaithfulness and pride will lead to downfall, and it is remarkable if you are a voice of morality and reason in an unjust situation.

The Sons Veto
The Sons Veto Thomas Hardy was an English novelist and poet and his story ââ¬ËThe Sons Vetoââ¬â¢ is based on the rigid class system popular in Victorian England. At that time, women were perceived as having a diminutive purpose with little independence. The restrains of society were clearly seen in Sophyââ¬â¢s character. Hardy opens the story with a detailed description on a womanââ¬â¢s hair. He comments on the fashion of that time. Her name was Sophy and she was born in the country village of Gaymead in a remote nook of North Wessex. As a young girl, she worked as a parlour maid in the house of the reverend, Mr. Twycott. Sophy had a young man named Sam Hobson, a gardener in the village. After a few months, Sophy wanted to leave her job and marry Sam but couldnââ¬â¢t do so after Mr. Twycottââ¬â¢s wife died. She decided to stay back and also had a quarrel with Sam regarding her decision. As time progressed, Mr. Twycott realized how dependent he was on Sophy. He became ill and whilst he was ill, Sophy brought his meals to him.One day, she slipped on the stairs while taking the tray down. She twisted her foot in the fall. Mr. Twycottââ¬â¢s health became better although Sophy was no longer able to walk. The parson felt guilty for her and asked her to marry him; she felt as though she was unable to refuse and felt obligated to marry him in order to be socially accepted. She married the vicar out of respect and not love. She was more concerned over her future and knew that any marriage would mean that she would have a home and a good lifestyle in the imminent years. As the story progresses, Mr. Twycott dies and Sophy raises a son all by herself. The author sets up a social detachment between Sophy and her son, Randolph through the language they speak. Sophy could not formulate sentences correctly and her incorrect grammar would blatantly annoy Randolph. Sophy as a woman had her deficiencies. One day while sitting by her window, she found her childh ood friend Sam. They get together after so many years and after a few days he proposes to her. When she talked to her son he was positive about the idea of remarriage but became angry when he found out that the man was a farmer. In a fit of rage, he made her swear on the cross that she would never marry Sam. One may also interpret it to be Sophyââ¬â¢s fault, which wouldnââ¬â¢t be incorrect, however Randolph gains a sort of power over her eventually leading to her death that could have been avoided had he not been so full of pride for himself.

Business law report kamaran Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Business law report kamaran - Essay Example Rarely do individuals have sufficient bargaining power of their own. Once the terms of employment start rolling, the contractual obligations of the employee are widened by standard terms assumed by courts and employment tribunals to be implied in all employment contracts. By definition, employment contract is the accord between an employer and employee which helps to facilitate smooth relations between the two parties. The contract of employment ought to have specific contents failure to which it might be declared null and void. More often than not, an employment contract must contain: the names of employer and employee; the date when employment began; the scale, rate, and method of calculating remuneration; the pay intervals; pensions scheme details; terms and conditions of hours of work; sickness and incapacity details and entitlements; holiday entitlements; notice entitlement; the expected place of work and address of the employers; job title or brief description of the work; any collective agreements affecting the employment; any grievance and disciplinary rules applicable to the employee; and details of any work abroad lasting more than one month. The employee must be notified of there are changes on the provisions mentioned as soon as they are enacted (Vettori 2007). Companies ought to afford a legal environment that provides managers and directors with maximum protection. Todayââ¬â¢s managers and directors are exposed to greater liabilities than insurance coverage alone can address. A manager or director ought to ensure that an organization, which is the, employer, complies with various legal tasks to its employees. These responsibilities include: paying wages; deducting wages on behalf of the government; providing paid time off for holidays; creating a conducive working environment that is devoid of discrimination and harassment; and providing a safe workplace. Managers or directors who do not carry out the duties as expected by law may be held accou ntable. In the corporate world, everything that managers and directors do is open to criticism mainly by those people their actions and decisions as being negative. Corporate governance often requires managers and directors to balance the competing interests of various company constituents. Therefore, managers and directors are required to conform to the duty of obedience; whereby, their own conduct and the corporationââ¬â¢s activities are applicable to specific statutes and the corporate charter. As a result, managers and directors are liable if they cause a corporate decision that is considered to be illegal. Nevertheless, the business judgment rule protects managers and directors who make knowledgeable and unbiased business decisions without any form of ill will. However, this rule does not apply at all a judgment has yet to be issued. This is often the case when the manager or director fails to act (Holland 2013). In the United Kingdom, the exchange of goods and services is g overned by contract law. Therefore, problems that are related to interpreting, assenting, and use of contracts in international transactions may be harmful to the proper running of the internal market. The conduct of business in the United Kingdom is governed by the European law which deals with the conduct and relations between nation-states and international organizations, as well as some of their relations with persons (Pace 2011). Unlike domestic law, European law generally cannot be enforced. Consequently, European courts do not have

Social responsibility of businesses Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Social responsibility of businesses - Essay Example If they are to be civil servants taxing and spending for "social" objectives, then they must be elected. Conversely, when the individual proprietor exercises his "social responsibility," he is spending his own money and is justifiable. So the social responsibility of businesses is to increase its profits ethically in free and open competition (Milton, 1970). Stakeholders include owners (who have a financial stake with expectation of returns, employees with their livelihood at stake expectant of security, benefits and meaningful work), suppliers (have their survival at stake and determine the firm's success, customers (exchange resources for products to profit the firm and benefit from the products), the local community (grants the right to firms to construct and returned with good facilities) and management. Management's stake is akin to the employees with the duty to safeguard the welfare of corporation, by resolving conflicts among conflicting stakeholders and balance their interes ts based on a doctrine of fairness (Ed, 1994). The disagreement lies in management. For Ed, the management still fulfils its role as long as the interests of the stakeholders are met with equality (Ed, 1994). As for Milton, once the manager is not an elected civil servant who taxes and spends the proceeds for "social purposes", he seizes to be manager (Milton, 1970). In his article, he explained that w... In his article, he explained that we act as consumers to get what we want for ourselves and we act as citizens to achieve what we think is right or best for the community (Sagoff). This implies that when we will think of national goals, they will go beyond our self-mere interest. Based on this distinction there will be a significant ethical difference between risk that is taken by the consumers (who chooses smoking) and risk that is imposed on them as citizens (subjected to the radioactive waste). Therefore in view of the cost benefit analysis, which sides the consumers, is not an adequate solution to address environmental concerns as it does not allow us "to have power to act as a nation", because we are not "able to acton a public philosophy, conviction, or faith" (Sagoff). 3.2 Name three steps along the roadmap Lovins, Lovins and Hawkin describe. The first step is to dramatically increase the productivity of natural resources by reducing the wasteful and destructive flow of resources from depletion to population through fundamental changes in both production design and technology. The second step is the shift to biologically inspired models where systems can be designed to eliminate the use of toxic materials, which can hamper nature's ability to reprocess materials (closed-loop manufacturing). The third step would be a move to a solutions-based business model where the new relationship from this model of delivering value as a flow of service will align the interest of providers and customers in ways that reward them for implementing the first two steps. 4.1 What are Reich's arguments against corporate social responsibility Make a list, with one sentence summarizing each. "1. Why the interest" describes the increase of interest in "corporate social

American Cinema into the 21st Century Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
American Cinema into the 21st Century - Essay Example The Social and Economic Context of the Period In the late 1980s to the early 1990s, the term ââ¬Å"popular cultureâ⬠became a mainstay, due to the dominance of culture in American cinema and the media. This indicated a shift from ââ¬Å"empirical studies to studies of cultural forms and meaningsâ⬠. During this time, focus was placed on audience and different forms of mass communication, which included music videos, computer and video games, soap operas, and the Internet. Research moved, particularly in the United States, to finding links between such mass communication and behaviour of society; emphasis was placed on popular culture and media studies. Cinema emulated these shifts in a number of areas from sociology and feminism to economics and history . Technological Developments As cinema entered the 21st century, a number of technological developments were made. Of the more prominent developments was the use of computers, replacing hand-drawn cartoons and physically cre ated special effects. In 2010, Walt Disney Picturesââ¬â¢ animated studio, Pixar, stretched the limits of possibility in the creation of ââ¬Å"Toy Story 3,â⬠the third successful installment of the wildly popular computer generated imagery (CGI) film in the Toy Story trilogy. Pixar has proven, time after time, that it has the expertise to create what would be impossible to animate by hand. One particular challenge in creating the film was crafting a very complicated scene in which the filmââ¬â¢s primary characters must make their way on a conveyor belt within a garbage processing plant. What seemed like millions of tiny pieces of diced garbage is moving toward a gigantic furnace, while the characters interact within the scene. In watching the scene, Pixar succeeds in making the audience feel as though they are watching live-action. The garbage reflects the lighting within the facility as it travels down the conveyor. The detail of the tiny pieces of garbage is truly amazi ng, somewhat gross, but the sequence is amazing nonetheless. Terdiman (2010) explains that Pixar did not have the finances or time available to them to manually animate the sequence, so the technical director and his team were forced to be creative with what resources they did haveââ¬âcomputers. The thousands upon thousands of tiny pieces of garbage were procedurally animated and brought to life. Similarly, for the garbage bags in the sequence, procedural animation was put to use. Since the bags served such a critical purpose to the plot, it was important they look as real as possible so as not to distract the audience from the overall viewing experience (Terdiman 2010). According to Anderson, a Pixar representative, the talented animators do not intend to break ground with each film they create. Obstacles arise, and it is their job to creatively handle the situation. If that means improving processes or inventing new ones that change the way future films are created, great, but that is not the intention. The animators at Pixar are highly-skilled professionals who want to create something better than what they previously put outââ¬âinnovations that just come naturally (Terdiman 2010). The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings (2001) utilized CGI technology, but also incorporated live-action and a process

Identity in the Indian Ink Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Identity in the Indian Ink - Essay Example The novel teams up with ideas that are fascinating as well as characters that revolve around an English woman who was visiting the subcontinent during the years that were yearning in the British Empire dominance (Davis 33). British and Indian definition of Identity The British people define Indian identity in terms of the behavior and culture the Indians display. For instance, the nude picture is a representation of Indian culture as evidenced by Flora when she says, ââ¬Å"this one is for yourselfâ⬠¦Iââ¬â¢m pleasedâ⬠(Stoppard 74). The picture is nude to represent Niradââ¬â¢s tradition as well as a revelation that he had stopped aping the English. However, Nirad meant to please Flora who had always told him to stick up for himself and stop doing everything the English do (Stoppard 43). This causes a cultural clash because Flora wants Nirad to be himself. Nirad wants to impress Flora using his knowledge of English culture and of England. Using oils in painting was Engl ish and not Indian; therefore, Nirad had to make the painting nude in order to be Indian. Thus, the British defined Indian culture based on following Indian roots and keeping away from English culture. Traditionally, Fosters which is a passage to Scotts and India the Raj quarter, the play examines experience in the colonial field by focusing on the relationship between given couples. Throughout the play, Floraââ¬â¢s and Niradââ¬â¢s relationship changes from being a formal one to being an intimate one. Their relation brings in major points of culture clash and tension too. Identity as displayed by the Characters Identity is given much attention throughout the play, especially as can be traced in different levels but it is clear in the relationship between Flora and Nirad. Stoppard chose an original way of presenting the identity in their relationship because he represents them using the art. In this respect, his idea of ââ¬Å"skill without imagination,â⬠is craftsmanship and offers numerous helpful objects, e.g., wickerwork, picnic, and baskets. Imaginations devoid of skill yield modern art. This is interesting because it reveals his view on the art as well as power of the human imagination, which should interpret and perceive the arts as it was done by the main characters (Kelly 50). The British as well as Indian perceptions during the colonial past are depicted in close parallel with the perceptions of the refashioned post-colonial. The reflection of Stoppard on the Anglo-Indian hybrid identity as well as combined cultures, i.e, Anglo and Indian in nature are traceable in the vastly Anglicized contemporary nature of Anish who opposes Mrs. Swan concerning imperial history topics and articulates the dominance of Indian culture, although he states, ââ¬Å"England is my home nowâ⬠¦I have spent half my life here" (Stoppard 18). His spouse is an English lady who is a contemporary deconstructive style painter, not like his father. Among the most conf licting viewpoint regarding the Empireââ¬â¢s past start to arise when Anish states, "The first War of Independence" or "The Rising of 1857", which Mrs Swan calls "The Mutiny" ( Stoppard 17). The author offers a similar voice to the two viewpoints as a somewhat heated contest on imperial history follows. An exemplar regarding Mrs Swanââ¬â¢s opinions is, "We were your Romans, you know. ...We might have been your Normans" (Stoppard 17), after which Anish persuasively puts forth his viewpoint.

Fredrick Douglasss Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Fredrick Douglasss - Essay Example He joined the abolition movement and became its leader because of his excellent command at speaking. This paper discusses about Frederick Douglass as a personality who struggled very hard in his life and can be seen as a shining star by his appreciators. Frederick Douglas was born in 1818 at Maryland (Lampe, 1998). As a child, he learnt to read and write by the support of white children and men as he used to notice them reading and writing. From his childhood, he identified that only education can transform his status from a slave to a freeman. He tried multiple times to run away from his masters and at last became successful. He thought about running from slavery to freedom by the support of his education. He also used to read newspapers with the help of which, he was able to comprehend political and social content (McFeely, 1991). He believed in his right of freedom. Douglass used to narrate his story as a slave in abolitionist gatherings and after noticing his vigor and eloquence at speaking, he was made the leader of the movement. He used to deliver lectures on the issue of anti-slavery. He became a member of American Anti-slavery society and took part in tours for highlighting the curse of slavery (Oakes, 2007). During his struggle at making people acknowledge that slavery is a curse and every person has equal right to remain free, he was attacked several times but he continued to pursue his mission. Douglassââ¬â¢s speeches were so inspirational and convincing that people liked them and continued to listen to them. When Douglas used to orate in a public gathering, the crowd was usually heavily populated because of the expressiveness and strength of his words (Lampe, 1998). People used to give weight to his words because of his elaboration and power of speech. Douglass remained the property of his master until and unless he did not raise funds for his freedom by carrying out a tour of Ireland and England for the anti-slavery movement. After coming back f rom England, Douglass started to turn out many newspapers with abolitionist topics (McFeely, 1991). Douglass was well aware of the effectiveness of the newspapers as in his childhood, he had seen their power and influence on people. This was the reason that motivated Douglass to start his own newspapers for the education of masses of US. Frederick Douglass not only worked for anti-slavery movement but also spoke for women rights as according to his perception, all human beings were equal and had the right to have their civil liberties. He was of the opinion that women should have equal right to vote as men. In his view, nobody was to be deprived of any civil right in order to lead a life that is not suffocating whether the person is black or a woman. It was the strength of the words of Douglass that resolution related to womenââ¬â¢s right to vote got passed (McFeely, 1991). According to Douglass, it was only education and knowledge that kept the power of bringing the black out of the curse of slavery (Lampe, 1998). He struggled for gaining equal rights of education for African American population. Douglass felt that no fortified insurgence was required by the African American population but only knowledge acquisition was enough to gain their due right of freedom (Oakes, 2007). He emphasized on the acquirement of education. During the American civil war, Douglass struggled for the obtainment of rights of his people and after the declaration
What makes Shakespeare's plays so very popular, even after all these Research Paper
What makes Shakespeare's plays so very popular, even after all these years - Research Paper Example Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays are universal in the sense that they reflect reality. This reality is not the objective reality. Rather it is a kind of inner reality that dwell within the being of a man and that shapes the objective reality itself. In apparently simplistic language, but with rich metaphors and imagery, most of the Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays lay bare the existence of that very existential being before the audiences. Indeed Shakespeare was a modern artist ahead of modernism, because though ââ¬Å"Existentialism officially emerged in the middle of the 20th century many authors expressed familiar ideas much earlier. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Hamlet posts some existentialist questions and expresses existentialist ideasâ⬠(Essay-911). Along with this exposure of a modern manââ¬â¢s naked inner self, his artistic bent to present the most complicated and the most clandestine truth through the simplest and the most appealing poetic language wins the heart of modern people with the least effort, as in this regard Johnson says, ââ¬Å"Shakespeare is above all writers, at least above all modern writers, the poet of nature; the poet that holds up to his readers a faithful mirror of manners and of lifeâ⬠(3). His art of characterizations also takes him to the core of human heart. His characters are not confined within the norms and rituals of a particular society; rather they are shaped by the common dynamics of human nature that exists in all the societies. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s portrayal of the characters is ââ¬Å"not modified by the customs of particular places, unpractised by the rest of the world; by the peculiarities of studies or professionsâ⬠(5). Modern existentialist scholars tend to mark the universality of the characters -of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays- as the portrayal of humanââ¬â¢s very existential self. Such appraisal of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s art of characterization appears to be partial, not complete. But Johnson marks Shakespeareââ¬â¢s characters as the portrayal of humanity as he says,

SD # 2 - Essay Example An image of a product is a very effective communication tool that makes lasting impressions among the viewers. In one way or the other, the customers are likely to respond to the market offering which shows that they have developed interest in the product. This enhances marketing communication between the marketers and the targeted consumers. 2. It is better to post an image that conveys an emotional response rather than a simple advertisement since it is likely to influence the customers to respond positively. Such images appeal to the emotions of the customers such that they can act when they come across products that may be of interest to them. Essentially, the aim of marketing is to stimulate the interests of the targeted customers so that they can buy the products offered. This can be possible if the image is designed in such a way that it will appeal to the emotions of the consumers. In most cases, customer response to a particular offering is mainly influenced by their emotions towards it. Therefore, it is imperative to design the images of the products that will appeal to the interests of the customers such that they can make a decision to purchase them. Thus, an image that evokes memories helps to stimulate the interests of the customers and consequently help them to make decisions to purchase the products being sold. Simple advertisements may fail to appeal to the interests of the targeted customers. 3. Pinterest acts as a customer relationship management tool in that the marketers are in a position to interact with different people on a personal level due to the fact that the images pinned by people to their boards reflect personal interests. As such, the marketers and the consumers can exchange information about a particular product. The consumers for instance can constantly get feedback from the marketers and this helps to develop

Rethinking Court Decisions on Middle-Income Mothers and Its Effects on Research Paper
Rethinking Court Decisions on Middle-Income Mothers and Its Effects on Their Children - Research Paper Example As children grow old, the society gives them jobs classifying them into their respective gender, either male or female (Ruether 647). Over time, people have accepted that the role of the women in the home, apart from giving birth, encompasses taking care of the homestead their children and the husband (Philbrick and Margaret 618). Being responsible for giving birth, automatically, the women assume the role of caregiving and nursing of the baby. They breastfeed, cook for the child, wash and even train them basic things such as talking and walking (Laxmi 95). Traditionally, men hold the responsibility of providing for their families. This role thus keeps men away from their families and their children most of the time. They are mostly busy at work or doing business in order to provide for their families. Currently, the world changes in a dynamic way. Subsequently, there is an increase in the family needs. With the cost living rising constantly, men are obliged to stay away more from th an ever. They thus leave their homes with their wives, who have to be around for the sake of the kids (Laxmi 95). Only recently, thanks to the gender equalization and sensitization campaign in the society, changes occur in these roles. Women now hold bigger roles than before. Proponents of gender equalization argue that women and men should hold equal roles in the society. While this is possible literary, practically, it is impossible. Men still hold the role of paying the hefty bills in the home, such school fees. This burden grows even bigger for the middle-income families, most of who live in urban areas. Coupled with rent and other necessities in towns and cities, the burden grows bigger. Except in some unique cases, men... Rethinking Court Decisions on Middle-Income Mothers and Its Effects on Their Children In a family setting, mothers hold the biggest responsibility, especially in taking care of their homes. This role, naturally assigned to them from the very birth of the child, requires their presence, providing their children with attention at all times. Middle-income women have even a bigger responsibility, contributing to the family financial needs and taking care of their families. With all these responsibilities, women hold a very important role in the family. In court cases, judges and jury pass judgement according to the arguments presented by the advocates. Women involved in any case, whether rightfully or wrongfully convicted attract the suffering to the family. If a woman, holding the responsibility of taking care of the home, while at the same time contributing financially to the running of the home goes behind bars, children suffer and as such, there is the need to rethinking court decisions on middle-income mothers and its effects on their children. There is no point of causing suffering to a bigger group of people in order to punish a single person. This is like creating a bigger problem while struggling to solve a small problem. Reconsidering these judgements means seeking for alternative ways of punishing these women, rather than putting them behind bars. House jail could be an option as well as community service and hard labour. Where unavoidable, visiting the family on regular basis is important.
